How to improve English?

I don't know whether it works, I just do like this to improve English. Listenning to VOA Special English every day. At the first time, I will put down the main ideas while I am listening. The second time, I read the article following the tape, and highlight key words which I can't hear clearly. During the all process, I think the most important tip is to use the tool---Sitman. This is a record sofeware, you can reread the material again and again.Not only that, you  can also put the content of the material. When you listen, you  can take note on the article. I believe my English will take a step with the help of VOA and Sitman.
