lead somebody by the nose 牵着某人的鼻子走
to influence someone so much that you can completely control everything that they do.
VOA : if a wife leads her husband by the nose,she makes him do whatever she wants him to.
hard nosed [adj,only before noun] 顽强的，不屈的
not affected by emotions, and determined to get what you want
VOA:If someone is hard nosed,they will not change their opinions or positions on anything.
pay through the nose(for something) [spoken] 为某事物花钱过多
to pay much more for something than it is really worth.
VOA:to pay too much money for an object or service.
keep your nose out of something [spoken] 避免牵涉某事
to avoid becoming involved in something that does not concern you.
VOA:do not interfere. (eg:I wish he'd keep his nose out of my business!)
nose around something [nose 为动词] 打听某事
to look around a place in order to try to find something, when there is no one else there.
VOA:interested in other people's private matters, that is nosy.
keep your nose to the grindstone [informal] 努力工作
to work very hard, without stopping to rest
VOA: someone who keeps his nose to the grindstone works very hard.
keep your nose clean 不做违法的事
to make sure you don't get into trouble,or do anything wrong or illegal.
VOA: to stay out of trouble.
cut off your nose to spite your face 想报复别人而害了自己
to do something because you are angry,even though it will harm you.
VOA: a person cuts off his nose to spite his face,makes a situation worse for himself by doing something foolish because he is angry.
look down your nose at somebody/something 轻视某人/某物
to behave as if you think that someone or something is not good enough for you.
VOA: act like something is unimportant or worthless.
turn your nose up at something [informal] 看不起、蔑视某物
to refuse to accept something because you do not think it is good enough for you.
VOA:the person who turns up his nose at others thinks he is better than everyone else.
with your nose in the air 自高自大，傲慢
behaving as if you are more important than other people and not talking to them.
VOA:if someoe thinks he is better than everyone else,he has his nose in the air.
thumb your nose at somebody/something
to show that you do not respect rules,laws etc or you don't care what someone thinks of you.
VOA:in school,some students thumb their nose at their teacher,they refuse to obey orders or do any work.
(right) under somebody's nose 在某人眼皮底下
if something is right under someone's nose, they cannot see it even though it is very close to them
be all ears [informal]
to be very keen to hear what someone is going to tell you .
keep your/an ear to the ground
to make sure that you always know what is happening in a situation.
VOA: to be interested in what is happening around you,and what people are thinking
lend an ear
to listen to someone,especially in a sympathetic way
VOA: lend an ear to your friends,that means listen to them when they have a problem they need to talk about.
